Aiming to enable visually impaired people to enjoy the quality of life others take for granted.

Living With Sight Loss

Life changes when you lose your sight. It can take time to come to terms with that loss. It can be useful to talk to others about how you are feeling and the practical problems you are experiencing.

Living With Sight Loss is a specially designed programme full of support, advice, information and practical solutions to help you move on following a diagnosis of sight loss. It consists of small informal group sessions which take place once a week for 3 weeks in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. We will assist with transport if required.

All the sessions are run by professionals who have many years’ experience of working with people who have sight loss. In addition you will get support and understanding from being with others who are going through the same thing.

On the Living With Sight Loss Programme you will:

Meet other people who have also lost their sight
Share your experiences and explore the emotional impact of sight loss
Find out about eye conditions and how they affect sight
Find out how to make the most of your remaining sight with appropriate low vision aids, colour contrast and lighting
Be shown solutions for safe and independent daily living with useful equipment, products and gadgets

Receive advice about getting out and about
Find out about accessible information, audio services, specialist equipment and new technology
Find out about community-based social and activity groups

Don’t just take our word for it. Here are a few quotes from people who have attended the programme recently:

“Having sight loss can be a lonely place with all kinds of different problems….but when you see and hear other people facing the same problems as you, you don’t feel so alone and facing the future doesn’t seem as bad”

“Although I am not there yet I can build on the confidence I have gained and knowing I can just phone up with issues means so much”

“I have met some lovely people on the course and will be keeping in touch [with them] and joining a few of the activity groups. I am really looking forward to the future.”
